Common questions
My bank connection says "Needs re-link"
Banks periodically require re-authentication. Open the Budget-Time sidebar (or Manage Accounts) and click Reconnect - you'll sign in through Plaid again and syncing resumes. Your existing transactions are untouched.
I shared more accounts than I wanted - how do I change which accounts sync?
You choose which accounts to share every time you link a bank - say you ticked all 5 accounts and only wanted 2. Where you change that choice later depends on where the bank showed you the picker:
- Banks that signed you in on their own website during linking (Chase and many large institutions): account sharing lives in your bank's own security or privacy settings (Chase calls it the Security Center, under "Linked apps & websites"). Open the Budget-Time connection there and add or remove accounts anytime. Your next fetch automatically stops including the removed accounts - nothing to change on our side.
- Banks where you picked accounts inside the secure linking window: open the sidebar's Banks tab and click Edit Accounts next to the bank. The secure window reopens with your account checklist - untick what you don't want and finish. Same connection, nothing re-imports; the next fetch simply uses your new selection.
Cleanup, either way: rows already imported stay in your sheet (it's yours) - filter the Account column in Transactions and delete the rows you don't want, plus the matching rows in Accounts and Balances.
One thing to avoid: don't disconnect the bank and link it fresh just to change accounts. A brand-new connection re-imports the full history under new transaction IDs, so you'd see everything twice until you delete the old rows. Edit Accounts (or your bank's own sharing settings) makes the change without any of that.
Some transactions are missing
Most banks provide 90 days to 2 years of history on first import - the range is set by your bank, not Budget-Time. New transactions typically appear within a day of posting; pending transactions appear immediately and update when they post.
If a fetch showed an error partway through, run Fetch All Banks again. Budget-Time confirms its bank cursor only after the sheet finishes writing, so interrupted batches replay safely and transaction IDs prevent duplicates.
I changed categories, but old transactions did not update
Use Tools → Data Health → Re-apply Category Rules, or run Fetch All Banks. Budget-Time detects edits to Category Rules / COA even when a fetch imports no new rows and tells you how many existing transactions changed.
A header or column was changed
Run Repair Headers & Widths under Data Health. Blank headers and capitalization-only changes can be repaired automatically. Unknown labels and moved or deleted columns stay paused and the Logs sheet identifies the problem; restore the original names/order with Google Sheets version history or a backup rather than guessing.
A bill was matched to the wrong transaction
Uncheck Paid and clear Amount Paid, Date Paid, and How on that Payments row. Confirm the transaction category is correct, then rebuild Payments. Auto-match requires the same account plus payment wording or an Internal Transfers/Debt Payments category; regular purchases are not eligible. Verify due dates and minimums against your statement.
Where is next month's payment?
Run Payments Tracker again. It keeps completed rows and projects monthly due dates through at least the end of next month. The Payments Calendar shows the current and next month. If a bank does not report a due date, enter it manually.
Balance History or trades are in the wrong order
After a fetch, Balance History sorts by Updated (column E) newest first. Investment Transactions sorts by Date newest first. Use the filter icons on the header row for date, account, type, or symbol filtering.
I do not have Gemini in Google Sheets
Open AI Prompts for copy-ready questions and safe steps. You can download the spreadsheet with File → Download → Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) and upload that copy to an AI assistant you trust. The file contains financial data: never make it public, and delete the uploaded copy when finished.
The Updates page is newer than the add-on in my sheet
Compare the build on the sidebar's Plan tab, then close and reopen the spreadsheet. If it still differs, refreshing, signing out, or reinstalling will not fix a Marketplace release whose active deployment still targets an older Apps Script version. Email support with the displayed build. Budget-Time must advance the existing deployment and the matching Marketplace SDK version; users should not need to reinstall afterward.
Amounts look backwards
Toggle Flip debits/credits in the sidebar. By default expenses are negative and income positive.
My bank won't connect yet
Most banks connect instantly. A few large institutions (e.g., Bank of America, Charles Schwab, PNC, U.S. Bank) require an additional partner review before newer apps can connect - ours is in progress with each of them. Email [email protected] and we'll tell you the current status for your bank. In the meantime, CSV import works for any bank.
My bank isn't supported
Use Import CSV from the add-on menu - download a CSV from your bank and map its columns. Imports are deduplicated automatically.
Emails, mailings & opting out
Budget-Time keeps email to a minimum. You may receive transactional emails tied to your account - payment receipts, refund and cancellation confirmations (sent by our payment processor, Stripe), and replies to your support requests. These are part of the service and aren't marketing.
If we ever send optional product or announcement emails, every one will include a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also opt out anytime by emailing [email protected] with "Unsubscribe" in the subject. We never sell or share your email address.
Beta / draft testers: if you were invited to test a pre-release (draft) version of the add-on and want to be removed, email [email protected] with "Opt out of draft testing" - we'll remove your address from the tester list promptly, and you'll use the standard released version instead.
How do I delete my data?
Disconnect your banks in Manage Accounts (this revokes and deletes the connection), then email us to delete your account record. Everything in your spreadsheet stays yours - see the Privacy Policy for what little we keep.
